Shining Light On Mast Cell Activation Syndrome w/ Nicole Dube, FDN-P
Wednesday Aug 24, 2022
Wednesday Aug 24, 2022
On today's episode, we're touching on a condition that hasn't been brought up on this show before: Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
MCAS is a diagnosable condition, but it is something that often goes undetected by western medicine's radars. Doctors and patients are usually quite confused about what is happening, and the best they can offer the patient is to treat it. The patient will end up taking high dosages of anti-histamines amongst other medications, and may even be told to seek disability (as was the case for our guest, Nicole Dube).
But Nicole is a different type of person. She was not ready to accept this recommendation of disability at such a young age. In her eyes, her life was not over yet.
Due to Nicole's trust in her intuition and amazing discipline, she eventually got her health 90% of the way back (and counting). She is NOT on disability, and instead has a list of impressive achievements which you can read below. We hope you enjoy this episode!
About Nicole: Nicole Dube is a state-certified, double board-certified clinical and holistic nutritionist and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. She has been in private practice for over nine years and uses her personal experience with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and POTS to help her clients go beyond managing symptoms and look for the underlying pieces to their healing puzzle. Her mission is to teach people to approach healing holistically - addressing body, mind, and spirit in order to give the body the tools it needs to begin healing.

Today we have a special guest, and it's not just because of his knowledge in functional health and mobility!
Dr. Ben Torres is a good friend of Detective Ev's, and in a sense, he's one of the main reasons Ev is even a podcaster! More importantly, he is a doctor of Physical Therapy who greatly appreciates what we do at FDN, and has run the labs himself for his own health challenges.
On this episode, we'll briefly touch on some of the health challenges Dr. Torres has went through, and then we'll spend the rest of the time focusing on tips and tricks those of us who work from home can do to make sure we are covering mobility in our health plan.
About Ben:
Ben Torres is a doctor of Physical Therapy, owner of 180 Body at Home Rehab, and creator of the Online Doctor’s Academy, a program where he helps other health care practitioners learn how to get their business successfully online!

Accounting, Equine Therapy, and Healing Using FDN w/ Shawna O’neill
Monday Aug 08, 2022
Monday Aug 08, 2022
Our guest today, Shawna O'neill, is a PERFECT example of why FDN was created.
Shawna has been in the accounting and IT space for over 30 years. She never set out to be a functional practitioner that would be helping others with their health challenges.
However, she started dealing with her own health challenges which eventually sparked her interest in alternative methods. And, like so many moms we interview, it was her own daughter's health issues that turned that interest into a legitimate passion and serious area of research.
Due to a combination of her own dedication + FDN, Shawna has been able to make significant progress in her own health journey, and her daughter is doing much better, too (she's actually in the health space serving others as well).
So why is this episode a good example of why FDN was created? Because it allowed someone who had been in a separate career for decades to start something new while also tackling their own health issues. No $100,000 medical school loans, no 8+ years of college. Just exactly what you need to help people get well and stay well naturally all wrapped up into one single course.
In addition to FDN and her accounting background, Shawna has been a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (Equine Therapy) for 18 years. She also received a graduate certificate in Nutrition Oncology from John Patrick University.

Collegiate Athlete Stopped In His Tracks Due To Mystery Symptoms w/ Ryan Mihalkovitz
Thursday Aug 04, 2022
Thursday Aug 04, 2022
Ryan Mihalkovitz is a former collegiate baseball player who had his life turned around when he started dealing with mystery symptoms. Having never really felt bad for most of his life, he was confused when the symptoms first started presenting.
Inititally, it was easy enough to brush things off, but the symptoms continued to worsen overtime. Before he knew it, Ryan found himself debiliated, unable to show up for the things he once loved and enjoyed.
Thankfully, due to a mix of determination, regular study, and a bit of luck, Ryan was FINALLY able to get to the root of his problems after years of being sick. Eventually, he ended up taking the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition course in order to refine his health and help others in the way he had been helped.
Ryan is a one of a kind guy. You'll be able to tell from listening or watching how genuinely interested this man is in helping others. We are lucky to have him as a part of our tribe!

Not only did this help her with her own health issues, but graduating has also led to her having a THRIVING FDN biz where she "finally found a home" (in terms of jobs).
We are so glad to have Becca with us as an FDN, and thank her for this super high-energy interview!

Fluoride IS Dangerous, And We Can Prove It w/ Gabriela Couto (Formal Dental Hygienist)
Wednesday Jul 27, 2022
Wednesday Jul 27, 2022
Added fluoride is one of those topics in the world of natural/functional health which causes a LOT of confusion, often without evidence to back it up. Many people in our space are quick to purchase the toothpastes that label themselves as "fluoride free," but how many can explain what the benefit is? Have they read the studies themselves?
In this episode, Detective Ev is talking to Gabriela Couto, a former dental hygienist who swapped careers after some shocking finds in the world of dental care. While pursuing a master's degree, she saw clear evidence that fluoride was in fact harmful to people, and that we rarely (if ever) dosed fluoride correctly. Despite this evidence, she found herself shot down by the professors she worked with.
It's one thing to shoot down an unfounded conspiracy theory, that makes sense. But shooting down evidence for no real reason other than "Because we said so?" That's definitely enough to raise an eyebrow!
During the interview, Gabriela shares with us her experience in the world of dental care, the shocking FACTS she discovered while pursuing her master's degree, as well as tips and tricks we can apply immediately to help us have great oral health naturally!

About Gabriela:
Gabriela Couto is yoga instructor, mindset/NLP Coach, and a former dental hygienist. While pursuing her master’s degree, she decided she would spend time researching and writing papers on the effects of fluoride. Despite finding clear evidence that it was harmful to the body, she was surprised to find her professors were quite dismissive of the studies she referenced. To be clear, it wasn’t the quality of the data they were disputing, it was somewhat arbitrary things like “Well, the study wasn’t done in the USA.”
Despite having other passions and taking a separate career path away from dental care, Gabriela is still VERY knowledgeable when it comes to all things fluoride. She chooses to share the facts about this harmful chemical so people can make informed decisions as to what they put into their body.
