Hi folks! Did you know that today is International Podcast Day? (Yes, they really do have a holiday for just about EVERYTHING nowadays, don't they?) [LINK in bio] Well, we're always up for a celebration! So, today, we did things a little differently... In an effort to highlight some truly amazing stories on this show, and to encourage newer listeners to make sure they go check out the AWESOME guests that helped to build this podcast along the way, this episode highlights the top 5 most memorable episodes on the show! Of course, this list is completely subjective, and its nearly impossible to pick a top 5 "best" for a show like this, as every guest has something special to offer in their own way. However, we selected these based solely on memorability, meaning that the episode really had a huge "wow" moment! We hope you enjoy the episode :)! Thanks for supporting The Health Detective Podcast! 78. What Diet Does FDNthrive Suggest? w/ Detective Ev
Thursday Sep 23, 2021
Thursday Sep 23, 2021
In this episode, we reveal the big secret... The answer to a question we get asked about all of the time on our calls with people looking into joining the FDNthrive program!
And that question is, "What diet do you suggest?"
The answer? NONE.
You, believe it or not, are a unique individual. One of over 7 billion people on this planet. When you put it that was, it seems pretty ridiculous that there are still people and health professionals with MAJOR influence promoting one-size-fits-all diet programs.
Folks, if you're a regular listener to the podcast, you've heard how amazing these stories are. People restoring their health after YEARS of health issues, from autoimmune diseases, to mental health challenges, and even cancers.
Do you REALLY think this happens with a one-size-fits-all approach? Or would it be more likely that these people figured out what works for THEIR body, applied it, and their body got back into the state of health it was designed to be in?
Well, how do we go about figuring out which diet may be most optimal for you at a given time? Are there general principles you can follow today to at least get you in the right direction if you're not quite ready for the program yet?
Both of these questions are answered in tonight's episode with Detective Ev!
Enjoy!

#77: Glutathione - A Missing Key to Wellness w/ Gian-Carlo Torres
Monday Sep 20, 2021
Monday Sep 20, 2021
Tonight's episode is with an extremely interesting individual, Gian-Carlo Torres! As our current youngest guest to date, Gian-Carlo actually did not deal with any major health challenges himself. Instead, he watched his mom, someone who he was extremely close to, get sicker and sicker. The worst part (that all too many of you who listen to this podcast can relate to)? They had no idea WHY. Well, as luck would have it, they eventually found his mom's missing link. In fact, it worked so well, that this became the foundation for Gian-Carlo's career, and his passion and story has taken him to over $1 million a year in annual sales! We'd like to thank @ for coming on and sharing his family's story. This guy brings the ENERGY even through audio, that much is for sure! #76: Becoming Superhuman, Simply w/ Andy Petranek
Thursday Sep 16, 2021
Thursday Sep 16, 2021
We're taking a bit of a different but still very FUN route today with our guest, Andy Petranek! While Andy might not have the stereotypical story we usually hear on this show (that is, one of severe, long-term health issues), he IS someone that has mastered two essential pieces of one's healing journey: Mindset and habits. The reason this is important is because if you want ABNORMAL results (like the ones our clients or guests on the podcast get), then you're going to need to take abnormal action. The first step in changing our actions is ALWAYS getting our mind right, and in this episode, Andy will show you how to do just that! A little about Andy: He holds a master’s degree in spiritual psychology and has been the beneficiary of decades of personal self-exploration, discovery, and expansion through his work with coaches, healers, guides, and teachers. A veteran of multiple overseas deployments including Operation Desert Storm, Andy is a former United States Marine who served for four years as a combat engineer and small unit commander. A Red Bull sponsored athlete in the sport of adventure racing, he captained teams and navigated courses all over the world in races like the Eco Challenge and Raid Gauloises; in 2009 he became the oldest competitor to qualify for and compete in the CrossFit Games. Where Andy is at now: Andy Petranek is a professional life, leadership, and performance coach who’s been helping people create greater levels of confidence, joy, fulfillment, and success in their lives for over 25 years. It was an absolute blast having him on, and if nothing else, we believe just about anyone would thoroughly enjoy this interview! #75: Ayurveda Meets Functional Medicine w/ Awais Spall, FDN-P
Monday Sep 13, 2021
Monday Sep 13, 2021
SUPER interesting episode for you all today/tonight! Awais Spall is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner based out of San Diego. Prior to becoming a health practitioner, Awais worked as a formulation chemist for various cannabis companies. As a product formulator, Awais combined his knowledge of formulation chemistry with his background in Ayurvedic Herbalism. Awais has inherited much of his knowledge around Ayurveda from his grandfather, who was a renowned herbalist in Pakistan. Awais eventually left the formulation world to pursue his deeper calling in life as an alchemist of the healing arts. In his practice, at integrative Oasis- Awais combines the cutting edge science of Functional Medicine with Ayurveda to address various gut health issues. Awais and Detective Ev talked about a variety of things, from therapeutic cannabis use, to Ayurveda, to how water and food in Pakistan may be notably worse and better (respectively) than water/food in the USA, and why! A huge thank you to this guy for coming on and being willing to talk about anything and everything! This is an episode we know you'll love and learn a LOT from! While Dr. Kozlowski may not have dealt with health issues in the way we normally hear about on this podcast, he certainly has a LOT to share about his journey becoming and practicing as a Functional Medicine Doctor.
Dr. Peter Kozlowski uses a broad array of tools to find the source of the body's dysfunction: he takes the time to listen to his patients and plots their history on a timeline, considering what makes them unique and co-creating with them a truly individualized care plan. Currently he works with patients online and in person via his Chicago, Illinois and Bozeman, Montana based offices. Dr. Kozlowski did his residency in Family Practice, but started training in Functional Medicine as an intern. He trained in the clinics with leaders in his field including Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Deepak Chopra, and Dr. Susan Blum.
It was an absolute pleasure/privilege to get to speak with Dr. Koz! Thank you so much for coming on and being REAL, exposing both sides of the truth.

Today's interview is with one of the YOUNGEST people we've ever had on the podcast, Xavi D.!
We had an absolute blast talking with Xavi about his unique perspective on what helped him finally resolve his morbid obesity. Looking at him today, you'd have NO idea he was ever overweight to begin with! As is the case for all too many, though, Xavi's healing was not a simple equation of calories in, calories out.
Instead, it took him diving DEEP into the worlds of functional medicine, spirituality, and general personal growth to achieve the results he did. Check out this episode to find out how Xavi finally made his obesity a thing of the past!

In this episode, we are talking to one of those individuals who is doing what we believe EVERYONE in healthcare should be committed to doing. What is that you ask? It's a dedication to lifelong learning.
Our guest, Brianna Diorio, is a certified personal trainer, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, herbal practitioner, Holistic Lifestyle Coach (CHEK), and has her masters in clinical nutrition. On top of all that? In just a couple of months, she will officially have her Phd in Integrative Medicine! Wow!
Brianna believes in a holistic approach to health and fitness, in which mind and body are viewed as one, in order to achieve optimal levels of wellness.
She also advocates for a holistic & alternative approach to integrative medicine, where emphasis is placed on treating the whole person and taking an individualized approach, incorporating: Mental/emotional health, integrative psychiatry, functional medicine & alternative therapies, dietary supplements & herbs.
We had a blast talking with her as she shared her knowledge, and the most interesting part we think you'll find is that, even though ALL of her studies, Brianna is still a huge believer in sticking to the fundamentals. You can get fancy with labs all you want, but if you don't stick to the basics, you're in for a bumpy ride.
Brianna also has own podcast, The Brianna Approved Podcast, which you can find here: https://www.briannadiorio.com/podcast
